Old Dominion University proudly offers the only Master of Library and Information Studies degree in Virginia and prepares students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills that will enable them to become highly proficient librarians, media specialists, and information authorities. Students in the ODU MLIS are advised through a 30-credit-hour plan of study with the opportunity to focus coursework on a type of library such as academic, public, or school or an in identified area of focus such as youth services or evaluation & assessment. ODU has a long history of educating school librarians in a nationally recognized, online program.  Offered asynchronously, our MLIS provides numerous opportunities to gain practical authentic experiences. The MLIS is offered with the option of a concentration in School Librarianship. Please let us know specifically if this is your area of interest. Applicant Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in any field by commencement of coursework
Undergraduate GPA of 3.0
Essay – 500 words addressing the prompt: “You are applying to graduate school in library and information studies, describe this step on your path as a lifelong learner.”
Transcripts for all post-baccalaureate coursework
Current resume
